Color Wheel Self-Portraits. My 4th and 5th grade Art Club students worked on this painting all year long (minus a day of Jackson Polluck splatter painting, recycle paper beads, and short value exercise). I loved how these turned out! I did this project with my high school students when I student taught... and just watered it down at bit for these guys. They still learned about tints and shades along the way. The pivotal step was taking each student's picture and printing it on a transparency paper for them to trace his or her contour lines BEFORE ever painting. End result=very realistic!
